PAUL JAGOE

In this issue of the Mocha News, we are pleased to feature Paul Jagoe. Paul was initiated into the Masons on September 16th, 1986 and was passed on November 18th that same year. On February 4th, 1987, Paul was raised to Master Mason at St. John's Lodge #68 in Ingersoll. On May 20th, 2000, Paul entered the Shrine at the Ceremonial in Sarnia. Many of Paul's friends were Shriners but unfortunately, he waited too long for them to see him enter the Shrine.

Paul chose to become a Love Bug in the summer of 2000 after he drove as a spare for a year. He loved the dedication and fun he experienced during that year and that experience convinced him to become a "Love Bugger"! Since then, his 1979 white convertible VW has been a great driving force for Paul and he has never missed a parade since!

Lynda, Paul's wife of 40 years, has also been involved in the Shrine, joining the Daughters of the Nile in 2002. Paul and Lynda have three children, Mike, Lori, and Susan and they have 4 1/2 grandchildren. Paul dedicated his life to teaching and is now enjoying a well deserved retirement. He taught elementary school for 35 years in Niagara Falls, Embro, and Ingersoll, focusing mainly in Physical Education and Industrial Arts until he swallowed a basketball. He then taught core subjects within the Grade 7 curriculum including Math, Science, English, etc.

Paul's kids themselves lead successful lives and careers. Mike is a computer programmer with Labatt's. He is married to Amarlee and they have two children, Kiara and Cameron. Lori is a financial consultant and is married to Steve. They have a daughter, Elisha, and another "on the way"! Susan is semi-retired from Manulife in Toronto as she is presently a stay-at-home mom. She is married to Andrew and they have a daughter, Emma.

Paul has been a great asset to the Love Bugs. Along with his impeccable attendance, he also serves as group photographer, recording forever our Bugs, great times and cherished friends. Paul also helped create our internet website, a task he is still completing. He has dedicated a huge amount of time and patience with the task, one we greatly appreciate.
When asked what he most enjoys about being a "Bugger", Paul responded with the pleasure he gets when he sees the smiles and knowing nods from people of every age. It seems they all had a Bug sometime or other! The little kids just love these unusual cars and exchanges of punch buggy pokes are not uncommon.

A memorable time Paul has shared with us, is the time a group of Love Bugs visited his neighbour after a parade. It got quite late and after hours of fellowship, it was decided to leave the two VWs and return home to St. Thomas in a large car that one of the wives had brought. Ross, Paul's neighbour and now fellow Love Bug and Paul, drove the two bugs home for them the next day. That is when Paul got the "bug". They were so much fun, he decided, then and there, to become a Shriner and drive in the parades. First, Paul was a spare driver and then became an owner/driver when he bought the VW from Ed Banghart. Since then, Paul has had wonderful times and has met many wonderful people. All this fun and helping the children, too! How can anyone lose?
